5 basic rules to create social signals

Social signals are reactions of people in social media, which show Google if your contents and website is worth to recommend. So, they’re human input taking influence on your websites’ rankings.

To optimize your social signals we recommend you the following 5 rules:

  1. Share your contents by yourself on your own social media profiles, which are relevant for your branch. Use individual status messages instead of automatically generated ones. Think about the different behavior and communication in the particular networks and adapt your posts to them: e.g. Facebook status messages may be a little longer than those in Twitter, but they regularly don’t contain hashtags.
  2. Vary between the publishing times on the different social networks. As the reactions in social media are often directly after a content’s published the highest, you should try to stretch them a little longer, so that your contents seem to shine more interesting than others. The second advantage of stretching the publishing time on different social networks is that you can measure easier, from which source you receive the best traffic for your leads.
  3. Don’t just post links to your site. Also post other interesting links, images, videos or just status messages. ‘Cause if you just post self advertisement, people get bored. So try to delight your audience for your topics.
  4. You may publish on ”less active” networks semi-automatically: You know of which social network I’m talking about, don’t you? The one which is important for SEO but almost nobody uses it actively. Yes, you’re right. Something with Plus inside its’ name ;-). As it’s important for SEO but not every time worth to create custom messages, we automatize the publishing there. So, we collect branch-relevant topics via feedly and post them via buffer on Google+. But be careful: auto publishing doesn’t mean that you don’t have to care about the profile there. This is still obligatory.
  5. Don’t use networks, which you can’t use actively. As already mentioned with the Google Plus profile, you have to care about each social media profile and to update all of them regularly. So, don’t think you can just register on networks like Googles’ one and then profit for every time. That’s because if your users recognize that you don’t care about your profiles by yourself, that’s the worse impression you can give them. So, you should not use any network, which you can’t care about by yourself.
